About The Position

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations within their stable and adapting construction organization. This role blends technical construction accounting expertise with leadership responsibility and strategic financial oversight. The Accounting Manager will oversee WIP management, financial reporting, payroll (union and non-union), and the integrity of financial data while partnering closely with operations to drive project profitability and informed decision-making. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction industry experience required
  • Strong expertise in WIP reporting and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience overseeing union and non-union payroll
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting and job cost accounting
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Review and finalize internal financial reporting packages for executive leadership
  • Manage and improve the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction-specific accounting standards
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Provide variance analysis and strategic financial insights to leadership
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
  • Direct and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and reporting
  • Oversee percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
  • Monitor job costing accuracy, cost allocations, and margin analysis
  • Partner with Project Managers to evaluate project performance and forecast outcomes
  • Analyze margin fade/gain, change orders, and contract modifications
  • Ensure proper billing practices, retention tracking, and contract compliance
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting related to project activity
  • Oversee union and non-union payroll operations
  • Ensure compliance with union agreements, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements
  • Review payroll allocations to job cost codes
  • Monitor payroll tax filings and benefit reporting accuracy
  • Maintain compliance with labor and regulatory requirements
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
  • Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements
  • Foster collaboration between accounting and operations teams
  • Support long-term financial strategy and operational scalability
