If selected for the internship, you must be able to commit to the full 12 months and be enrolled at a university or technical college throughout the length of the internship. Must be able to work onsite at the Royal Credit Union Corporate Center in Eau Claire, WI, throughout the school year and during breaks. Why Royal? The Accounting internship provides experience in Royal's Accounting Department. Under the direction of the Accounting Manager and mentorship of Senior Accountants, will perform various Accounting Department duties as assigned and will assist with or be assigned to various departmental projects, as the need arises. The Accounting Intern is an integral part of the Accounting Team providing continuity of day‑to‑day operations and completing and/or assisting with departmental projects. The Accounting Intern must possess experience with working independently and the ability to ask questions when direction is unclear.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at a university throughout the internship, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Completed or currently enrolled in Intermediate Accounting coursework.
  • Completed or currently enrolled in Information Systems coursework.
  • Experience managing priorities through academics and work/volunteer involvement.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to shifting workflow needs.
  • Strong understanding of intermediate accounting concepts and the ability to apply them accurately.
  • Excellent written and verbal business communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • High attention to detail, strong confidentiality practices, and commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams) and ability to quickly learn new digital technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily balancing activities, communicate effectively on out‑of‑balance situations, and ensure accurate posting within Royal’s accounting software.
  • Complete month‑end responsibilities including GL reconciliations, internal control account reviews, and documentation of outstanding items.
  • Support the month‑end financial close process and assist in preparing analytical and financial reporting.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives including projects, audits, year‑end processes, and serve as backup for various Accounting roles.
  • Maintain organized documentation, complete routine accounting and clerical work, uphold confidentiality standards, and comply with Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet performance goals and uphold Royal’s core values.
