About The Position

Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions is seeking an Accounting Intern: Internship (Summer or Semester-Based) Position Summary The Accounting Intern will support the Finance and Accounting team in day-to-day accounting activities within a fast-paced mortgage banking environment. This role is designed for students seeking hands-on experience in corporate and mortgage accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. The intern will gain exposure to mortgage-specific accounting concepts while assisting with reconciliations, reporting, and ad hoc projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic formulas, filters, and data organization)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information responsibly
  • Eagerness to learn and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or coursework related to accounting or finance
  • Interest in or exposure to the mortgage or financial services industry
  • Familiarity with basic accounting concepts (debits/credits, general ledger, reconciliations)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily and monthly accounting processes, including data entry and account reconciliations
  • Support bank, escrow, and trust account reconciliations under supervision
  • Help prepare and organize supporting documentation for audits, state examinations, and internal reviews
  • Assist with accounts payable and expense tracking, including invoice coding and review
  • Support the accounting team with month-end close activities, including schedules and journal entry support
  • Compile and validate data for management reporting and financial analysis
  • Maintain organized electronic files and documentation in accordance with internal controls
  • Participate in process improvement and special projects as assigned
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Operations, Compliance, and Capital Markets as needed
