About The Position

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for an Accounting Intern to join our Financial Services Department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work model. Reporting to a member of the Finance team, the Accounting Intern supports the organization’s financial operations by assisting with key accounting functions and financial reporting activities. This role provides hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes while contributing to the accuracy and maintenance of the organization’s financial records. The internship offers valuable exposure to accounting systems and financial processes within a healthcare organization.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when working with financial data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with financial data and reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting project deadlines.
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. regional office as needed
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with accounting software systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month-end close process by calculating and recording journal entries in the general ledger.
  • Review and validate supporting documentation and source data for journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the preparation of internal financial reports such as the report of operations, trial balance, and balance sheet.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and compile supporting sub-ledger details for review.
  • Assist with accounts payable processing within the OneLink system.
  • Support the preparation of reports and materials used in month-end close meetings.
  • Contribute to cash management activities, including preparing bank deposit entries and maintaining cash schedules.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and quality in all work products and communications.
  • Support organizational values by demonstrating integrity, collaboration, and strong working relationships.
  • Adhere to compliance standards and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente’s Code of Conduct) by protecting confidential information, safeguarding organizational assets, and following applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
