About The Position

Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track instructional position in Accounting. The instructor is expected to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to curriculum development, program improvement, and shared departmental goals. In addition to serving the urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, including students from Fairchild Airforce Base, Spokane Colleges provides educational services to rural communities throughout our 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington, including students from the Spokane and other Eastern Washington tribes. Requirements

  • An earned master’s degree in business or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current or former CPA licensure OR completion of at least 45 college quarter credits (or the semester equivalent) in accounting-designated coursework from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience teaching college-level accounting or related subjects equivalent to one academic year.
  • Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.
  • Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of full-time equivalent experience teaching college-level Accounting.
  • Two or more years’ full-time equivalent work experience in Accounting or business.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and/or ability with various modalities (online, on ground, hybrid, etc.).
  • Evidence of instructional excellence in both onsite and online courses. Acceptable forms of documentation may include student evaluations, peer evaluations, and/or recent supervisory evaluations.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse (racially, ethnically, socioeconomically) and underserved student and stakeholder communities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and instruct courses in Accounting through in-person, online, hybrid, and other modalities, as appropriate to program needs.
  • Be available and accessible to students for purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet student needs, through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility or other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Work collaboratively, strategically, and respectfully with diverse colleagues, students, and community members.
  • Be committed to advancing diversity, promoting equity, and preparing students to live responsibly in an increasingly global civilization.
  • Utilize evidence based instructional practices in the developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, including but not limited to evaluating student progress and providing clear, timely feedback.
  • Participate in district, division, department, or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; service on district or college councils or committees, or other activities within the scope of the position.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the community college mission and values and how SFCC advances them.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan.
  • Work evenings, alternative schedules, summer or at alternative work locations consistent with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Advise student clubs or associations.
  • Instruct courses in related disciplines based upon individual qualifications and expertise.
  • Advocate for Accounting and/or the Business department on campus and in the community.
  • Be committed to serving, advising, and mentoring a socially and culturally diverse student population.
