About The Position

The Accounting Director oversees all financial operations of the church, ensuring integrity, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This role partners closely with the Executive Pastor to steward resources faithfully, support the church’s mission and achieve its vision of Being changed by God to Reach All People. Reports to: Executive Pastor Oversees: Accounting department staff Works with: Ministry and department heads, volunteers, auditors, and donors Works: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Requirements

  • Formal education in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets.

  • Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Accounting staff and functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and present timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage implementation of the annual budget and provide variance analysis throughout the year.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee preparation of annual audit, review, or compilation and act as primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard church assets.
  • Review and approve semi-monthly payroll for accuracy, compliance, and proper authorization.
  • Ensure payroll taxes, benefits, and withholdings are processed and remitted timely.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Partner with HR and leadership on compensation changes, new hires, and terminations.
  • Oversee contribution processing and donor records to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
  • Ensure timely issuance of donor contribution statements.
  • Oversee and review work completed by Volunteer Count Team.
  • Regularly review and improve accounting and payroll processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Partner with pastors, ministry leaders, and department heads on ministry financial planning; train staff and ministry leaders on financial and payroll policies as needed.
  • Support the Finance Committee or Board with financial reports and analysis as needed.
  • Attend accounting team meetings and events, all-staff meetings and devotions.
