The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications to fill one (1) Accounting Careers Trainee position with a target class of Accounts Examiner in the Office of External Audits which is part of the CTDOT Bureau of Finance and Administration. It is the DOT's mission to provide a safe and efficient intermodal transportation network that improves the quality of life and promotes economic vitality for the State and the region. NOTE As an Accounting Careers Trainee you will be a part of a 1- or 2-year training program depending on your level of education. The length of the training program is 2 years for individuals with a bachelor's degree in accounting or in a closely related business field with at least 15 semester hours in accounting. The length of the training program is 1 year for individuals with a master's degree in accounting or in a closely related business field with at least 15 semester hours in accounting. The length of the training program for an individual who earns a master's degree in accounting or in a closely related business field with at least 15 semester hours in accounting while assigned to this classification is 1 year from the date the master's degree is conferred or the end of the original 2-year training period, whichever comes first. THE ROLE This position is primarily responsible for performing the oversight of agreed upon procedure reviews of DOT projects for consultants, municipalities, utilities, and railroads. You will learn how to apply the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARS) to project costs being audited. You will utilize DOT audit programs / workpapers and develop an understanding of DOT consultant agreements (contracts) including the various provisions that are subject to compliance testing in the audits. You will learn the external audit units review and quality assurance procedures and utilize the State and DOT systems (CORE-CT and Viewport) to capture project costs and project budget data. You will work with other units within the DOT that manage the project closeout process and learn about the variety of project types including any specific rules/associated regulations that effect the performance of the audits.
