About The Position

An Accounting Department support position responsible for performing recurring cyclical financial functions to include: assist the Controller and/or the supervisory Accountant with the preparation of audit workpapers, maintain computer spreadsheets and reports, perform manual and computerized data entry, perform data verification functions, filing, photocopying, provide telephone/receptionist support as well as other related Accounting and Administrative duties. Area Offices operate in the communities of Alton, Carlinville, Decatur, Effingham, Granite City, Mattoon, Quincy, and Springfield. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Accounting (preferred) or equivalent accounting/bookkeeping experience, substitutable on a two-year for one-year formal education basis.
  • Demonstrated conversancy and competency with accounting and windows-based software, preference given for experience with MIPS and the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications, specifically to include Excel, Word and Access.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently, accurately and accomplish designated tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in one or more of the following areas for the Accounting Department: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, bank reconciliation’s, and statistical data entry (see Addendum One – Job Responsibilities).
  • Assist the area Accountant with preparing operational and financial workpapers and compiling supporting documentation in preparation of external financial audit.
  • Data enter annual agency operating and funding budgets using the appropriate accounting software in a timely manner to meet management, inter-agency and external reporting requirements.
  • Assist the area Accountant with the organization, preparation, maintenance and filing of Accounting Department records.
  • Data enter, maintain and print accounting documents and computer spreadsheets as directed by the area Accountant.
  • Directly assist with the agency’s fiscal year-end record and file conversions.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of the accounting computer software programs by recurring data posting and file backup.
  • Conscientiously accept instructions and efficiently execute them in a logical and organized manner, consistent with the accounting concept of “reasonableness”.
  • Provide telephone answering support on an assigned as well as as-needed, backup basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
