This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. The Analyst III Technical Accounting, Projects & Controls is a key member of Blue Origin’s Accounting organization and a subject matter expert across complex accounting topics, project/contract set-up, revenue recognition, and internal controls. This role is a versatile “utility player” who supports multiple areas of the accounting group, drives process improvement, and helps scale our systems and controls as the business grows. You will support the evaluation of complex and non-routine transactions, advise on technical accounting matters (including but not limited to revenue recognition), lead project and contract set-up in our systems, and strengthen our control environment. You will partner closely with Business Unit Finance, Legal, Contracts, Operations, Tax, and Program teams to support deal structuring, project launch, and ongoing performance management. We are looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with an operational mindset, who is comfortable shifting between detailed analysis, project work, and hands-on execution. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting or finance.
  • 3+ years general accounting experience, including application of ASC 606.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Self-starter with bias for action – builder vs. maintainer mentality.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical accounting resource for the Accounting and Finance teams, researching and applying U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606 and other relevant standards) to complex and unusual transactions.
  • Analyze and document accounting conclusions for new products, business models, and contract structures, including multi-element arrangements and government contracts.
  • Lead project and contract set-up in the ERP and subledger systems, ensuring appropriate configuration of key attributes (e.g., funding, performance obligations, milestones, billing terms, cost tracking).
  • Support revenue recognition assessments and documentation for significant customer arrangements, including identification of performance obligations, allocation of consideration, and treatment of contract modifications.
  • Design, maintain, and improve internal controls over key accounting cycles (e.g., project set-up, order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, close and reporting), ensuring compliance with US GAAP and applicable Government Accounting Standards.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Business Unit Finance, Contracts, Legal, Operations, Tax, Program Management) to evaluate accounting implications of business decisions and to operationalize accounting policies.
  • Identify, lead, and implement process improvements and automation opportunities across the accounting organization, driving efficiency, standardization, and data quality.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, process documentation, and technical memos to support internal reviews and external audits.
  • Provide training and guidance to Accounting, Finance, and business partners on technical accounting topics, project/account set-up, and control requirements.
  • Act as a flexible “utility player” within the Accounting team by stepping into high-priority projects, special initiatives, and ad hoc analyses as business needs evolve.
