About The Position

Qualified accountant who performs the accounting, costing, and financial analysis activities for Mississippi Lignite Mining Company. This position supports reporting, budgeting, and forecasting while also leading automation and data-integration initiatives that enhance accuracy and efficiency across multipole systems and business units.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and terminology
  • Ability to perform calculations, analyze/interpret data, and solve problems, with work/objectives generally defined
  • Must be able to coordinate, prioritize, and successfully meet multiple deadlines
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to explain and understand accounting principles and practices
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, Power Point) experience with Power BI and Power Query is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • Minimum of two years of related experience

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and business-intelligence tools strongly desired.
  • Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise1 accounting software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze cash deposits, journal entries, audit schedules, and cost statements; perform cash management activities as required
  • Prepare revised forecasts of income, expenses and volumes and an analysis of departmental incomes with supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly/yearly balance sheets, income statements and cash flows (forecasted, consolidated) as well as analyze income and cost variances
  • Perform accounts payable process
  • Compile monthly forecasts, budget variances, and costing information as well as costing responsibility for the preparation of the Annual, 5 Year and Life of Mine budgets with input from location personnel
  • Prepare schedules of capital expenditures (parent, subsidiaries, consolidated) and perform audits of physical assets
  • Provide information and respond to requests from lending institutions, tax department, parent company, auditors, and customers
  • Analyze account balances, costs, statements, budgets, payments, variances, general ledger review checks, invoices, supporting data, deposits.
  • Perform bank and general ledger reconciliations
  • Assist with customer communications including invoicing, variances, documentation, verification, and other matters as assigned
  • Lead data-drive process improvements by testing and implementing automated tools using Excel, Power Query, and Power BI to reconcile and analyze large-volume account and inventory datasets
  • Collaborate with IT and cross-company teams to integrate and validate financial and operational data between JD Edwards, DAS Reports Now, and other reporting platforms.
  • Support preparation of management reports, dashboards, and analytical summaries for executive review and strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external audit requirements.
  • Create spreadsheets, graphs, charts, and visual dashboards.
  • Participate in special projects and cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Type correspondence, compile documentation, and perform other clerical duties as required.
