The Accountant is an experienced accounting professional responsible for the statutory reporting process for State’s Departments of Insurance and other regulatory requirements. This role also involves accounting, reporting, and analysis for assigned blocks of business, working closely with other accounting and reporting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial results. The US Controllers Accounting team prepares and reports financial information for various internal and external customers. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in the financial services industry.
  • Strong record of accomplishment in the financial services industry
  • Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and leadership/empowerment skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate information to various levels of management.
  • Individual must possess a high level of initiative, be a self-starter, self-directed, independent and highly motivated.
  • Proficient in Excel, Oracle, WDesk
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or MBA is a plus.
  • preferably in the Life insurance industry, with statutory accounting and reporting experience preferred.
  • Experience with Sovos Wings or other Statutory Reporting software a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation and review of accurate and complete statutory financial statements for a life insurance operating company, including quarterly and annual regulatory filings and the annual audited financial statements.
  • Responsible for the coordination, preparation and review of statutory supplemental and state compliance filings for Life companies. Actively coordinates with Legal, Compliance, Tax and Actuarial.
  • Support relevant communications with various state insurance departments, including researching and responding to inquiries, completing requested surveys, and communicating accounting issues or confirming accounting treatment of various transactions.
  • Processes payments of state licenses and fees both at year end as well as throughout the year.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders regarding accounting and reporting for assigned blocks, including resolving issues and/or working on related strategic initiatives.
  • Streamline processes and procedures to continually improve efficiency and controls.
  • Owns related internal controls, including performance of all SOX controls for assigned blocks and appropriate SOX documentation, as well as identification of new risks to propose and implement process and control changes independently.
