About The Position

Newsela is seeking an Account Executive to support the BOCES of New York. This role is responsible for building relationships with key decision makers at the district level and selling Newsela’s suite of products to bring engaging learning content to school districts. The Account Executive will employ solution-based selling techniques, solution mapping, strong negotiation, and closing skills to ensure school board preparation and approval. They will create and maintain an aggressive pipeline, build and adjust strategic account plans, and manage the entire sales lifecycle from lead generation to forecasting. The role involves meeting in-person with school and district leaders, presenting solutions, negotiating terms, and securing agreements. The successful candidate will be well-versed in their territory’s funding, state initiatives, demographics, and K-12 education landscape to inform sales strategy. Newsela takes authentic, real-world content from trusted sources and makes it instruction-ready for K-12 classrooms, publishing texts at five reading levels to be accessible to every learner. Over 3.3 million teachers and 40 million students use Newsela for personalized, accessible, and standards-aligned content.

Requirements

  • Proven Account Executive with 2+ years of demonstrated success selling supplemental products to school districts in the K12 market.
  • Willingness to build your own book of business and extensive experience in networking, prospecting, and building a pipeline.
  • Experience partnering with school districts through BOCES regional offices, coordinating services and solutions that meet district needs.
  • Skilled at navigating complex education ecosystems, building trusted relationships, and driving strategic partnerships that create value across regional networks.
  • Well-versed in MEDDPICC sales methodology.
  • Proven success forecasting business in the EdTech industry.
  • Excited by opportunities to connect face-to-face — this position involves regular travel to meet with customers and prospects.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with key decision makers at the district level and sell Newsela’s suite of products to school districts in your region.
  • Employ solution-based selling techniques and solution mapping, along with strong negotiation and closing skills, to ensure school board preparation and approval.
  • Create and maintain an aggressive pipeline.
  • Build and adjust strategic account plans for key accounts to move each account through the sales cycle.
  • Manage pipeline creation, pipeline management, forecasting, designing lead generation campaigns, and sales through the entire lifecycle while collaborating closely with other departments.
  • Meet in-person with school and district leaders, presenting solutions, negotiating terms, and securing agreements that bring Newsela into classrooms.
  • Be well-versed in your territory’s funding, state initiatives, demographics, and K-12 education landscape, which will help inform your overall sales strategy.
  • Be part of a regional sales team and the face of Newsela in the market.
  • Work with an enthusiastic, cross-functional team to catapult Newsela’s growth as we scale our national sales organization.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance, including evaluating customer needs, structuring tailored solutions, negotiating within established guidelines, and influencing revenue and business outcomes.
