About The Position

The Accommodations Specialist plays a vital role in advancing equitable access to educational opportunities by coordinating ADA accommodations, supporting students with disabilities, and collaborating with campus partners to deliver accessible services, inclusive learning environments, and effective retention support. Guided by federal, state, and system policies and procedures, the Accommodations Specialist also contributes to a supportive team culture by supervising work-study students and volunteers and, when needed, partnering with external agencies to enhance service delivery.

Requirements

  • One year of direct work experience in higher education, or a bachelor’s degree (may substitute for 1 year of experience), or an associate degree (may substitute for 6 months of experience)
  • Knowledge of FERPA, ADA, ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Federal and State disability related laws
  • Demonstrated skill in maintaining confidentiality and working with sensitive issues
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of various computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and database management
  • Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and office equipment (i.e., chairs) or heavier materials with help from others
  • Requires frequently transporting light objects
  • The position may require frequent movement throughout the building(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience in working in a disability related field or higher education
  • Experience in working with diverse populations, including students with disabilities
  • Experience with ISRS and/or ImageNow or CRM software
  • Knowledge of disability related software
  • Knowledge of best practices as defined in the Association of Higher Education on Disability and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling
  • Knowledge of disability related resources, agencies, and various types of adaptive software/equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and adaptive technologies
  • Experience leading or supervising
  • Bilingual (including ASL)
