About The Position

The University of Virginia's number one ranked Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well-being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Virginia’s Student Disability Access Center, a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking an Accommodated Exam Associate. This position coordinates scheduling and administration of accommodated academic exams to students with disabilities with approved accommodations and will work closely with the Associate Directors and the Accommodated Exam Specialist. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This is a nine month, full-time, 40 hours/week, benefits-eligible position with UVA benefits. The selected candidate will pass a background check and drug screen. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas now or in the future. Please note that this position will need to take unpaid leave during the three summer months each year, roughly mid-May to mid-August. Additionally, any employee medical insurance premiums will need to be paid in arrears upon return to work. Additionally, this employee will not accrue state VRS service credit while on unpaid leave.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience required
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, i.e., business administration, special education
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 preferred.
  • Working experience in higher education (2-3 years is strongly desired), preferably with experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated universal cultural competence, and a continuing commitment to advancing support for the entire community served.
  • Strong organizational and program development skills and strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate accommodated academic exam administration for individual students with approved exam accommodations. Facilitate the administration and completion of the exams and ensure that disability-related accommodations have been met.
  • Assist with all aspects of exam administration, including checking in students, ensuring that the integrity of the exam is properly maintained, printing exams, reformatting exams for accessibility as required, and monitoring time allotted for exam completion.
  • Facilitate maintenance of testing center scheduling, including communication with faculty and academic partners (e.g., registrar) as required.
  • Serve as a resource for student proctors and staff on the best practices for administering exams and ensuring exam integrity.
  • Serve as primary staff presence at the front desk of SDAC, addressing higher-level walk in concerns, particularly as related to test administration.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving techniques as issues arise before, during, and after exam administration.
  • Serve as the primary exam coordinator for evening-hour exams.
  • Ensure exam integrity by monitoring cameras installed in each testing room.
  • Proctor exams in-person or over Zoom as needed.
  • Work with the other SDAC staff in the larger mission of collaborating with and educating University faculty, deans, administrators, families, and students about disability and learning support systems at UVA.
