About The Position

Accessioning Clerk Lead, under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, performs daily accessioning activities of receiving specimens, accessioning specimens, and scanning of requisitions into scan system and assists in the leadership and supervision of the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Over five years prior experience as an Accessioning Clerk required.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in the overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Accessioning department.
  • Ensure that all employees are properly oriented and trained.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective training program for department.
  • Review all accessioning errors and recommend as necessary the need to counsel and/or retrain employees as needed.
  • Assist in documenting, maintaining and monitoring effective department QA programs.
  • Prepare monthly QA reports and summaries.
  • Evaluate QA data to optimize error reduction workflow.
  • Develop and implements proficiency testing evaluations with the supervisor.
  • Help to establish and execute long and short-term department goals and projects.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate departmental operations and work flow, making changes as needed.
  • Maintain acceptable turnaround time of specimen accessioning.
  • Receive and account for all specimens received into the Lab.
  • Perform data entry login of patient demographics, insurance information, and test(s) orders from specimen requisitions into computer systems.
  • Review specimen requisitions noting any omissions and errors in patient demographics, clinical data, test(s) orders and medical necessity requirements.
  • Triage, prioritize, and sort specimens appropriately.
  • Scan information into the scan system and dispose of documents as appropriate.
  • Communicate pertinent information/issues to supervisor, manager or other appropriate individual.
  • Answer departmental phone calls.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to junior level accessioners with respect to problem solving and workflow.
  • Serve as project leader in the development and implementation of training, QA programs and department protocols.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
  • Evaluates, maintains and updates manuals under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
