About The Position

The Accessible Education Specialist will provide administrative support services to students in need of accommodations due to their documented disabilities, manage documents from students, interact with faculty and students and participate in on campus and community events supporting students with disabilities. The Specialist will have excellent soft skills and the willingness to advocate for students so they can thrive in a competitive academic environment. The Office of Accessible Education is a department within the Student Services Division. Golden Gate University is a non-profit, private institution, serving adult learners. We cater to a diverse student population, including international students and veterans.

Requirements

Education requirement: Associate degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Knowledge of: ADA laws involving accommodations for students with disabilities and laws pertaining to FERPA
Skills and abilities: Experience working with students with disabilities in an academic environment
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with students and faculty in a positive manner
Advocate for students’ academic needs

Responsibilities

Provide administrative support to students by managing documentation, coordinating accommodation request, exam scheduling, and fostering positive communication between students and faculty
Create and maintain a database of confidential records
Develop a student resources database
Review and evaluate documentation submitted for accommodation requests; assist students with completing necessary forms and applications
Serve as the initial point of contact for students requesting accommodations
Maintain proactive communication with students
Support the director in workshops and presentations
Other duties as assigned
