About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Access Services Librarian to begin August 2026 . For more information, please visit https://www.tamiu.edu/ This is a non-tenure track fixed-term professional faculty position with an initial appointment of 3 years and renewable for up to five years at a time as qualified by Texas A&M University System Policy 12.07. Primary duties will include : Managing day-to-day circulation and access services, including service desk coordination, policy implementation, and workflow development and oversight for circulation and public service functions. Supervising, scheduling, training, and mentoring five full-time employees assigned to circulation, stacks, and public service operations, including development of training materials and performance expectations. Collaborating with the Reference and Instruction Librarian to coordinate a public service desk model that promotes seamless patron support across circulation and reference services. Developing cross-training practices and service standards that support consistent, high-quality user interactions. Coordinating stacks management and maintenance, including shelf organization, shifting projects, inventory initiatives, and ensuring collection accessibility and order. Monitoring stacks conditions and workflows to promote accurate shelving, efficient retrieval, and a welcoming browsing environment. Expanding and managing course reserves services, including developing workflows, promoting faculty awareness, and ensuring timely access to high-demand materials. Coordinating procedures and collaborating on policies related to borrowing, reserves, equipment lending, and collection access. Maintaining hours and calendars of library services in collaboration with building partners. Supporting facilities-related operations in public service areas, including reporting maintenance concerns, coordinating service continuity, and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment. Monitoring circulation and service desk metrics to assess effectiveness, identify trends, and recommend improvements. Maintaining documentation, procedures, and workflows that promote operational consistency and accountability. Participating in outreach efforts that raise awareness of circulation, access, stacks, and reserves services. Collaborating with library colleagues to support collection availability, patron access, and space use. Maintaining current knowledge of trends and best practices in access services, stacks management, and assessment of relevant services through continuous professional development. Promoting library instruction, services, and collections through targeted outreach and relationship-building with assigned departments Participating in special projects and serving on departmental, university, and professional committees. Other duties as assigned. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Requirements

  • An earned Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution. Candidates nearing degree completion will also be considered but must have earned the Master’s degree before appointment.
  • 2 years demonstrated experience in circulation, access services, or public-facing library operations, 1 of which was in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated potential for advancement in rank.
  • One to two years of related professional or paraprofessional library experience.
