This role advances disability inclusion by ensuring that all qualified students with disabilities have full and equal access to educational opportunities. The incumbent engages in collaborative decision-making to determine appropriate access measures, coordinate the delivery of inclusive services, and contribute to institutional compliance through comprehensive reporting and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and interprets medical, neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and psychological documentation to understand an individual’s medical and educational history and the functional impact of their disability
  • Analyzes data within these evaluations to identify specific areas and levels of impact by assessing discrepancies between cognitive abilities and academic achievement.
  • Engages in the interactive process with students by conducting semi-structured interviews in order to gain insight into the student’s experience with, and the functional impact of, a disability.
  • Determines academic accommodations and auxiliary services utilizing knowledge about disability impact as it related to various educational and university environments (traditional classroom, hybrid, online, etc.)
  • Collaborates with faculty and other academic or university programs to ensure the appropriate application of approved accommodations as well as best practices for full inclusion.
  • Maintains comprehensive, accurate record of student/faculty contact and decision-making by utilizing the department's online information management system (AIM).
  • Advises students regarding the interaction between accommodations and course requirements.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
