About The Position

This position provides one-on-one and small group academic support to TRIO Student Support Services participants, with a focus on improving academic skills, retention, and persistence. The Academic Tutor works in collaboration with faculty, advisors, and student support services to assist students in developing effective learning strategies, study skills, and academic confidence. This position supports the delivery of tutoring, workshops, and academic skill-building services that help students succeed independently.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in Liberal Arts AND at least one academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in the liberal arts at the high school level or above, OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • A job offer may be contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
  • The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins.

  • Experience monitoring student progress and collaborating with faculty to support academic achievement.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or small group academic support sessions.
  • Knowledge of TRIO Student Support Services program goals and federal regulations.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in a community or technical college setting.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and provide constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with policies and issues affecting low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and helping students achieve academic goals.
  • Experience applying diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices in academic support environments.
  • Personal, academic, or professional experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by TRIO-eligible students.
