About The Position

At Baruch College we believe that student success is everyone's responsibility With more than two hundred faculty members in thirteen departments, The Weissman School of Arts and Sciences has the largest teaching staff of the three schools that make up Baruch College. It offers general education and upper-level classes to undergraduates from across the college, including over 4000 majors, and graduate education to a select group of students who have met its rigorous admissions standards. The school has a tradition of offering personal and individual attention to students at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. Reporting to the Director of Graduate Programs in the Office of Graduate Studies, the Assistant Director of Graduate Academic Advising provides academic enrollment support to the 350+ students enrolled in Weissman School's Graduate Programs, which include the MA in Strategic Communication, the MS in Financial Engineering, the MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in both the traditional and executive formats, the MA in Mental Health Counseling and the MA in Arts Administration. The Assistant Director of Graduate Academic Advising is expected to do the following: + Develop orientation programs to engage and retain students. + Provide student advising to Weissman graduate students, may provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling. + Provides International student specific advisement. + Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive new student enrollment academic advisement program. + Instruct students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies. + Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures + Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements. Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits + Maintain data and serve as staff point of contact for student appeals and changes of program; administrative support to the Weissman Graduate Affairs Committee + Participates in operations of Graduate Studies, including, delivering and assessing student services and special events such as Office of Graduate Studies yield events, Career Services events, and Orientation + Maintain data and generate communication (web, email, social media, etc.) to students on matters related to registration and academic advising.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Prior experience with graduate students is a plus.
  • The successful candidate will have the established ability to manage multiple responsibilities that are time sensitive and require careful attention to detail.
  • The ability to set priorities, exercise sound judgment, and interact with students, faculty and staff in a professional and thoughtful manner are essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications are equally essential.
  • Experience with social media platforms and webbased communications and resources preferred.
  • Evenings until 6pm are required.
  • Some late evenings and weekend hours may be required.
  • Some travel may be required.
