About The Position

The Academic Program Specialist plays a pivotal role in the School of Education, by ensuring successful implementation of a portfolio of teacher preparation programs. Reporting to the Academic Program Director, along with the CUNY Title overview, responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to: + Manage and supervise the administrative day-to-day aspects of a portfolio of alternative certification and advanced certificate program teacher and leader preparation programs + Manage all aspects of the program participants journey including but not limited to: registration guidance, cohort meetings, certification requests and preparation, hiring and support + Assist the Director in preparing proposals, presentations, and other materials and reports in accordance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements + Meet with program participants and work alongside them to establish goals and evaluate their program progress + Liaise with external partner organizations to support recruitment, admissions and retention of program participants and the facilitation of several program activities + Support and advocate for students enrolled in the alternative certification and/or advanced certificate teacher and leader preparation programs + Coordinate and facilitate informational and orientation sessions, for prospective and incoming program participants + Liaise with other internal departments in an effort to: plan and schedule courses, hire and orient new adjunct faculty, and schedule and facilitate meetings with faculty. + Facilitate communication about programs between internal and external stakeholders and constituents, including drafting routine communications and documents + Maintain and organize program records and files in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements + Contribute to new development of new program design, implementation, and evaluation + Other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in educational, nonprofit, or higher education institution setting; prior experience in a college or university setting and knowledge of K-12 education or teacher preparation preferred
  • Excellent project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organization skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize activities, work under and meet deadlines, and effectively handle changing priorities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and constituents
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent technology skills included proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and online apps and academic systems including Google drive and CUNYfirst
  • Excellent Excel and data analysis skills
