About The Position

Oversees and coordinates Graduate Medical Education programs for the Division of General Surgery, which may include developing and administering programs by managing existing programs, designing curriculum, solving related problems, and evaluating and improving processes under the direction of the Chief of the Division of General Surgery. This position will be hybrid

Requirements

  • Five years of administrative and/or secretarial experience in an academic setting or equivalency.
  • Five years of program/curriculum development, instructional design, education and training, and evaluation and assessment experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, Healthcare Administration, or a similar field.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Excellent communication (including written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem-solving (including diplomatically handling problems of a sensitive and/or confidential nature) skills.
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills; accounting, bookkeeping, word processing, and typing skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Zoom.
  • Experience with, but at least knowledge of, general surgery (to include surgical critical care, acute care surgery, burn surgery, and minimally invasive surgery), MedHub, ERAS , NRMP , ACGME , AAST , ABA , The Fellowship Council, ABS , WebADS, SmartWeb, Canvas, and Box.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant and program management or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required.
  • Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic and research programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with other program staff: Oversee the overall management and coordination of General Surgery Graduate Medical Education ( GME ) programs, to include Surgical Critical Care ( SCC ), Acute Care Surgery ( ACS ), Burn Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Surgery ( MIS ).
  • Manage the recruitment process for GME candidates, including marketing, application review, interview coordination, and selection; facilitate trainees' onboarding process, including orientation, training, and coordination and completion of required documentation.
  • Manage calendars and coordinate didactic sessions, conferences, and educational activities for trainees; support trainees' academic and professional development.
  • Research, locate and submit Grant applications.
  • Oversee the evaluation process of trainees, including performance assessments, feedback mechanisms, and evaluations from faculty; maintain accurate records of trainees' progress, milestones, and completion requirements.
  • Monitor program outcomes, collect and analyze data, and implement program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among fellows, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with program directors, faculty members, and trainees to develop and implement high-quality educational experiences.
  • Design, update, and implement surgical curricula, evaluation methods, and policies for graduate medical education trainees, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies and instructional technology.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in surgical education.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to develop interprofessional education initiatives and cross-departmental curriculum integration.
  • Update stakeholders as needed (departmental leadership, GME Office, specialty boards, ACGME , AAST , ABA , The Fellowship Council, etc.).
