For more information about Texas McCombs please visit: https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu Purpose The Academic Program Coordinator supports the McCombs Success Scholars (MSS) program through academic advising, student persistence initiatives, and program coordination. This role is integral to fostering the success of first-generation and high-financial-need business students, with a focus on community, belonging, and academic progress. Serve as a member of a larger community of professional and student staff in the Texas McCombs BBA Program Office who enhance the educational experiences of students by providing additional opportunities for global education, student leadership, career planning, academic support, and outreach/recruitment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience coordinating a program and performing complex administrative functions in an academic setting.
  • Experience working with college students in an advisory, program coordination, or administrative capacity.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as a supportive team member.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving, and follow-through ability.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization, time management, and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Diplomacy and sound judgment in working with students, families, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Leads proactive outreach and individualized advising efforts that promote academic persistence and student success for McCombs Success Scholars.
  • Conduct persistence follow-up for students identified as needing additional academic support.
  • Facilitate personalized advising that helps students identify goals and connect with key campus resources.
  • Identify transition challenges for new students and help reduce future persistence risks.
  • Collaborate with BBA Persistence Coordinator on academic support initiatives.
  • Provide drop-in advising and serve as a primary point of contact for MSS students in need of academic or personal support.
  • Advise students on academic warning and those experiencing academic or personal crises.
  • Partner with learning specialists, financial-aid counselors, and other UT offices to address complex student concerns.
  • Provides academic advising and general student support for first- and second-year McCombs Success Scholars while serving as a key liaison to the larger BBA Advising team.
  • Provide developmental advising that integrates academic planning, engagement, and well-being.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of McCombs and UT undergraduate degree requirements, policies, and campus resources.
  • Participate in weekly Academic Advising & Partners meetings and AIM (Advising, Infrastructure, MSS) team meetings.
  • Support the planning and implementation of summer and August orientation sessions.
  • Present advising information as needed in large-scale and small-group settings.
  • Participate in college-wide and university events such as Commencement and Gone to Business.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through ACA, NACADA, and related networks.
  • Coordinates MSS program logistics, event execution, and student-facing learning experiences that build community and enhance persistence.
  • Coordinate MSS Lounge operations and ensure a welcoming, well-maintained environment.
  • Support colleagues with planning and implementation of MSS events such as the Welcome, Study Break, Etiquette Dinner, and MSS Graduation, etc.
  • Manage administrative tasks for events, including submission of event forms, purchase orders, and payment processing.
  • Co-teach the weekly MSS First-Year Seminar with the Assistant Director and contribute to curriculum delivery.
  • Oversee MSS marketing and communications efforts, including supervision of the student marketing coordinator, management of MSS Canvas pages, and development of digital and print promotional content.
  • Assist with first- and second-year programming and student engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with the McCombs Orientation Team to train and support student Orientation Advisors.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
