Watch to learn more Job Summary The Academic Planning Specialist serves as a key strategic and analytical partner in the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Planning. This position provides leadership and coordination for university-wide academic planning initiatives that advance institutional priorities and support data-informed decision-making. Working collaboratively with colleges, divisions, Institutional Research & Analytics (IR&A), Enrollment Services, Finance, and the Office of the President, the incumbent independently conducts complex research and analysis; synthesizes financial, enrollment, and space data; and develops high-impact, data-driven reports and visual narratives to inform executive leadership. The position requires sound judgment, political acumen, technical expertise, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a higher education setting in an administrative, analytical, institutional research, or planning capacity.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with senior administrators, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders; analyze and synthesize complex quantitative and qualitative data; develop advanced Excel models and use data visualization tools; and produce well-written, executive‑level reports for broad dissemination. They work independently with sound judgment in a confidential, mission‑driven environment, build collaborative and solution‑oriented relationships across diverse groups, accurately document and synthesize meetings and action items, and manage large‑scale projects with competing deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex datasets, reporting systems, and executive-level communications preferred.
  • The candidate applies critical thinking, strategic analysis, and problem‑solving skills to institutional planning and is proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, with experience in enterprise data systems and web content management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • University-Wide Academic Planning & Strategic Initiative Leadership: Provide leadership and coordination for cross-divisional initiatives related to Financial Planning, Enrollment Planning, Academic Space Planning, Strategic Planning, and emerging institutional priorities.
  • Data Analytics, Modeling & Reporting: Develop, manage, and enhance comprehensive data systems, dashboards, and analytical reports that support academic and resource planning across the university. Conduct in-depth research and produce data-intensive visual stories, reports, and presentations for executive leadership and external audiences.
  • Perform other duties in support of the Office of the Vice Provost and Academic Affairs as assigned.
