About The Position

East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine and Ballad Health are seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Complex General Surgical Oncologist. This leadership role provides oversight of clinical services, clinical research, and quality initiatives, with a focus on expanding and coordinating surgical oncology services. This is a non-tenure track position. Position Overview: The Surgical Oncologist will be responsible for providing clinical and surgical services within the Division of Surgical Oncology, academic pursuit of research, participating in quality initiatives, and medical student and surgery resident education within the surgical oncology service line. This surgeon will play a pivotal role in continuing to expand on the strong surgical oncology service line with the mission of East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine and Ballad Health, while also ensuring collaboration with allied specialties including medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and imaging services. The ideal applicant will have board certifications and/or board eligibility from the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery as well as Complex General Surgery Oncology. Applicants ideally have experience practicing the breadth of complex general surgical oncology including caring for patients with malignancies of the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine, colon, rectum, and skin and soft tissue including extremity and retroperitoneal sarcoma. The ideal candidate will have experience performing regional therapies and directing regional therapy programs. A candidate with a particular interest in melanoma, sarcoma, and endocrine surgery including thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal are preferred. The ideal candidate should be comfortable caring for a diverse patient population. The candidate will be expected to have experience in performing clinical and translational research. Johnson City, Tennessee is beautiful town nestled in central Appalachia. It is conveniently located near the Tri-Cities airport, Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Hospital, and multiple sites for skiing, hiking, and numerous outdoor activities. Requirements

  • Applicants must possess an active medical license and must be board-certified or board-eligible in general surgery at the time of hire.
