About The Position

The Academic Coordinator works with students to build their knowledge, skills, and confidence in order to successfully pursue fields of study that are both challenging and attainable. The Academic Coordinator is an onsite full-time non-exempt position who reports to the Assistant Program Director. This position operates in a highly scheduled environment but may require longer hours and occasional weekend work and minimal travel as job duties demand. The Academic Coordinator position involves a moderate physical demand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field is required, or Master’s preferred.
  • 2+ years related experience or training is required.
  • Active Driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced education or training in educational approaches, methods, and support for persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other learning differences is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the field of autism and/or learning disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Special education and/or career services or placement background, particularly at the higher education level is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in identifying academic goals, majors, and degree paths.
  • Assist students to navigate and access educational institution’s services and accommodations.
  • Help students develop executive functions, social and academic skills to manage and complete coursework.
  • Effectively communicate academic progress with college personnel, CIP advisors and families.
  • Teach related skills that will facilitate overall success in higher education through individual and group sessions.
  • Develop and instruct CIP approved academic curriculum.
  • Supervise and support team of academic coaches.
  • Assist students in creating individual academic plans using each student's academic goals, strengths and challenges.
  • Serve as liaison between the educational institutions and CIP, as well as between the institution and students, consistent with student independence.
  • Facilitate executive and social skills learning through teachable moments in academic environments.
  • Set up study groups, academic assistance appointments, and instruct coaches on process for providing individualized academic services.
  • Communicate and submit student reports to the Team Review Process, in the areas of goal progress, grades, and other benchmark data.
  • Attend student meetings and events as needed.
  • Assist students to develop, follow through and modify their academic plan.
  • Advise students on communication (disclosure, clarification, nonverbal, hidden messages) with instructors and support services.
