Provide developmental academic advising for new and continuing students using a case management approach. Assist students in defining personal and academic career goals, interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curriculum and prerequisites, and developing basic skills to register for courses, as appropriate. The Academic Advisor will refer students to appropriate internal and external resources that foster student success. Register students for basic skills advancement, general education, and program prerequisite courses. Collaborate with academic deans, department chairs, and coordinators to continue to maintain a seamless college-wide academic advising system for students. Maintain and manage department resources. Utilize report and tracking data to develop and implement proactive activities for advisement. Conduct all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Participates in and contributes toward a developmental, academic advising program. Provides general advising, registration assistance, and specific guidance to all students in the Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences. Assists in developing and implementing academic completion plans for students. Assists with interpreting placement assessment results prior to registration. Provides articulation information for those students seeking transfer/admission to a baccalaureate degree. The above list of duties should not be contrasted as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned. Work Hours are generally between 8 am – 5pm. Occasional longer hours during peak periods, and some Saturday hours or evening hours, if required.
