About The Position

The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York is hiring an Academic Advisor to support and advise undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor will join the Colin Powell School’s Office of Academic Advising, which currently consists of five full-time advisors. They will report to the Director of this office and will be responsible for advising of students, the development and implementation of programs to support student success, and monitoring and reporting on student progress toward degrees, as required by the College and CUNY. This position plays a key role in advancing student success across the Colin Powell School, with a particular focus on supporting first-year students through the Welcoming Experiences and Learning Communities to Maximize Early Success (WELCOME) initiative. WELCOME is a U.S. Department of Education–funded research study, which seeks to expand existing advising and academic programs for first-year students at CCNY. The Academic Advisor will contribute to both school-wide advising efforts and the recruitment, implementation, and day-to-day support of WELCOME programming. The Colin Powell School is home to CCNY’s social science departments as well the College’s core business, psychology, public service, and leadership development programs. With more than 4000 students, and graduating the most CCNY students annually, the Colin Powell School’s mission is to transform the nation’s most diverse student body into tomorrow’s global leaders. Half of our students are immigrants and most come from lower income backgrounds. More than sixty percent are first-generation college students, and eighty-five percent are people of color. The Colin Powell School and City College remain among the most effective engines of economic and social mobility in the United States.
