About The Position

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is seeking an Academic Advisor II to provide professional academic advising services to all Early Childhood Education (ECE) majors and other HDFS majors/minors as needed. This position will advise current or potential students and their families concerning majors, minors, scheduling, probation, etc. Provide referrals to resources for wellbeing and support, such as academic success, counseling, or financial aid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related or supporting field such as higher education, student affairs, education, counseling, human development, or social work
  • Proven experience in advising, teaching, or counseling students
  • Experience in providing training and support
  • Familiar with student recruiting and retaining students
  • Experienced in presenting to small and large groups

Responsibilities

  • Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.
  • Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
  • Refers students to appropriate resources such as counseling, academic success, financial aid, etc.
  • Interprets academic policies and procedures to support student success.
  • Teaches orientation courses.
  • Presents at orientation or other events.
  • Participates in recruitment activities and develops materials.
  • Advises learning communities.
  • Advises student organizations.
  • May supervise students.
  • May serve as a lead advisor.
  • May participate in practicum coordination.
