About The Position

The Academic Advisor II, Complies with all state, system, and university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, guidelines, and directives in a timely manner and adhere to confidentiality policies (FERPA). The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Two years of related experience in advising and recruiting.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • Travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Advising: Interact with assigned caseload of students each semester to provide high quality, informed guidance and support regarding their academic success and available resources to ensure students are demonstrating behaviors that lead to success for their area of study and setup the foundation for success throughout their University academic experience.
  • Provides academic advising for students grounded in tenets of practice outlined by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) and appropriate academic advising and student development theories.
  • Advises for course selection, registration, academic planning, career and educational goal-setting, appropriate resources, transitioning to the university, and retention issues.
  • Advises in both group and individual settings with current and prospective students.
  • Interprets State, University, and college policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records of student contacts.
  • Monitors academic progress and implements intervention strategies for students who receive academic alerts or who need assistance in maintaining or improving their academic standing.
  • Promotes student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency.
  • Provides students with proactive referrals to appropriate resources and timely reminders, and other targeted individual and group communications using email, texting, and social media.
  • Promote a culture of belonging through various university and department initiatives.
  • Manages/coordinates advising projects, events, outreach, and interventions for all students.
  • Actively seeks to identify and address individual, organizational, and environmental conditions that foster or inhibit student success.
  • Use EAB Navigate (student success platform) to establish targeted student populations on caseload for more intensive advising.
  • Targeted Support: Utilize best practices, resources, and tools to identify and provide targeted, tailored advising services to those students who demonstrate behaviors that put them at risk of being unsuccessful in their academic experience
  • Continuous improvement and Additional Duties: Collaborate and participate in various activities with department, division, and university partners to enhance our unit’s approach and impact on student recruitment and success as the needs of students change to meet the goals for student recruitment and retention of the university.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Conducts research on topics within the field of academic advising.
  • Collaborate with university partners on matters that impact student recruitment, success, and retention and support developmental and university retention initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
