Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience
  • Strong independent work skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • The ability to build effective, collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • A team-oriented mindset, contributing positively to both the department and broader university community.
  • A commitment to collegiality, integrity, and high ethical standards.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience coordinating student programs, such as learning communities, peer mentor programs, or student organizations.
  • Experience teaching, facilitating workshops, or leading seminars.
  • Experience working with prospective students, including recruitment events, campus visits, or outreach activities.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing problem-solving skills to interpret a variety of procedures, policies, and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with scheduling, registration, degree audits, course selection, and general academic planning.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to campus resources to support retention and student success.
  • Lead and participate in new student orientation activities, including advising sessions for incoming students.
  • Meet with prospective students and their families during campus visits and recruitment events.
  • Plan, develop, and teach orientation and advising seminar courses, including ENGR 1010.
  • Coordinate learning community programs, including event planning, assessment, and training peer mentors.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student employees and peer mentors.
  • Manage prospective student visit programs and support departmental recruitment efforts.
  • Contribute to departmental communication efforts and assist with scholarship selection processes.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as the advising representative.
  • Provide career guidance and support to students exploring professional pathways.
