About The Position

EPPS Master's Advisor - School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking an experienced Academic Advisor (Level II or III) to support master's students in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS). This advanced advising role involves guiding students through their academic journey, including program requirements, course selection, and university policies, while connecting them with resources to enhance their academic and professional development. The position includes in-person and virtual advising, monitoring academic progress, supporting student success initiatives, and opportunities for leadership within the advising team. The ideal candidate has experience in academic advising, counseling, higher education, or related fields and is passionate about helping students achieve their goals in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Requirements

Advisor II: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years related experience; or Master's degree.
Advisor III: Bachelor's degree and six (6) years academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents, or related experience. OR Master's and four (4) years of related work experience.
Demonstrates ability to work as a team member.
Knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources.
Ability to use multiple computer systems including PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook, and well as Microsoft Office.
Ability to identify student's needs in order to make appropriate referrals; maintain confidentiality of student records.
Possesses strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational and management skills.
Explores new models for effective delivery of advising; coordinate advising efforts within the school including the recruitment of new students from freshman to transfer students.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
Experience advising graduate or master's-level students.
Knowledge of university policies, academic requirements, and campus resources.
Familiarity with advising platforms and student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook).
Experience participating in student recruitment, onboarding, or retention initiatives.

Responsibilities

Advise students regarding program, School, and University policies and procedures
Proactively manage an assigned caseload of masters students, document all pertinent student information, and maintain student files and records.
Conduct student meetings in-person and virtually on a regular basis.
Use advising platform and case-load management strategies to establish targeted student populations for more intensive advising and meet those students a minimum of the required advising sessions per semester.
Monitor the academic progress of students and determine satisfactory progress toward a master's degree
Introduce students to opportunities that will enrich their academic experience, facilitate their academic and personal development, and support their educational success.
Identify current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g. study skills, tutoring, counseling) and refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
Assist students in completing graduation applications.
Participate in student success activities for the School and University
Communicate in a professional manner with program faculty, university administrators, researchers, staff, students, and campus visitors.
Support class scheduling, enrollment, and systems related to class registration.
Participate in and provide feedback on training and professional development activities.
Develop and apply a comprehensive knowledge and skill of the assigned specialty advising population.
Participate in recruitment activities, programs, and initiatives.
Provide advising information to prospective students and/or parents.
Assist with student onboarding activities
Other duties as assigned.
May supervise student staff
Represent Advising in the absence of the Graduate Dean at meetings
Participate in the activities of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)
