About The Position

The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management in the College of Health and Human Services is seeking an Academic Advisor I to provide comprehensive, student‑centered academic advising services. This position supports current and prospective students and their families by offering guidance on majors, minors, course planning, academic policies, and probation processes. The advisor will help students navigate their academic pathways while connecting them with campus resources that promote wellbeing and success, including academic support services, counseling, and financial aid. This role plays a key part in fostering student achievement, belonging, and retention through proactive outreach, individualized support, and collaborative problem‑solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
  • Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Experience supporting student recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Experience teaching or advising undergraduate students.
  • Experience managing student programs such as learning communities, honors programs, or similar academic support initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.
  • Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
  • Refers students to appropriate resources such as counseling, academic success, financial aid, etc.
  • Interprets academic policies and procedures to support student success.
  • Teaches orientation courses.
  • Presents at orientation or other events.
  • Participates in recruitment activities.
  • Advises learning communities.
  • Advises student organizations.
  • May supervise students.
