About The Position

The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York is hiring an Academic Adviser to support and advise undergraduate students. The Academic Adviser will join the Colin Powell School's Office of Academic Advising, which currently consists of eight full-time advisers. They will report to the Director of this office and will be responsible for one-on-one advising of students, the development and implementation of programs to support student success, and monitoring and reporting on student progress toward degrees, as required by the College and CUNY. The Colin Powell School is home to the City College of New York's social science departments as well as the College's core business, public service, and leadership development programs. With almost 4000 students, and graduating the most CCNY students annually, the Colin Powell School's mission is to transform the nation's most diverse student body into tomorrow's global leaders. Half of our students are immigrants and most come from lower income backgrounds. More than sixty percent are first-generation college students, and eighty-five percent are people of color. Requirements

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Nice To Haves

Four years of related experience, including work supporting academic advising, student services, or academic program operations.
Experience working with students to resolve academic issues and provide accurate advisement and referrals.
Experience collaborating with academic and administrative offices to support advising processes and student success initiatives.
Strong ability to provide consistent, accurate, and timely academic advising to a diverse student population.
Proficiency using advising and student support technologies (e.g., CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, communication platforms).
Ability to conduct assessments, prepare reports, and support the development of advising and orientation programs.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, advisors, and student service units.

Responsibilities

Provides highly expert and/or specialized academic counseling to a diverse student population and contributes to the successful operations of an academic advising unit
Work with the Dean and Associate Dean of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, the director of Academic Advising, the Division, The Office of Student Success and Department advisors with planning, scheduling and coordination of academic advising and registration activities for the academic departments and programs within the Colin Powell School
Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
Work with other academic affairs staff as well as admission, student affairs and the HUB to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses
Ensure students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic
Provide guidance to students on available financial aid options and strategies for funding their education Advise
Uses multiple technologies to advise and communicate with students including CUNYFirst, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, Zoom, project management software, etc.
Proactively engages students in advising process through appointment campaigns and regular communication
Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements
Work with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
Works with representatives of other student service units, such as the Registrar, to assure a continuously high level of student service
Ensure the division's adherence to college policies and procedures, write reports, and maintain databases
Participate in professional development to stay informed about best practices in student advising and transfer student success
