About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven 5th Grade Math Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that strengthens scholars’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding in preparation for middle school rigor. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making. This role requires a teacher who is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and fostering a structured, engaging classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certification in a relevant subject area, OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., Education, Mathematics, STEM field, or similar field), OR Minimum of three (3) years of K–8 teaching experience
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Possess strong analytical abilities and enthusiasm for data-driven instruction
  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction aligned with AMS curriculum frameworks.
  • Build strong foundations in numerical operations, fractions, decimals, and early algebraic thinking.
  • Prepare students for the transition into middle school math through conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.
  • Design engaging lessons that promote critical thinking and real-world application of math concepts.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional planning and targeted interventions.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies to support student behavior and engagement.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Encourage persistence, collaboration, and confidence when solving complex mathematical problems.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to continuously improve instructional practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on STEM education and student achievement.
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and use data to improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.
  • Provide families with strategies and resources to support math learning at home.
