About The Position

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus County has an opening for full-time 4-H Youth Development Educator working from the Ellicottville, NY office. The 4-H Youth Development Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to assist with delivery and evaluation of the 4-H Youth Development educational programs and activities. Educator will be responsible for coordinating and delivering program objectives and plans in all areas of 4-H Youth Development programming as well as providing connections to 4-H Youth Development resources to volunteers and community partners, emphasizing science and technology, healthy lifestyles, life skills, workforce preparation, community service, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Education. (Associate degree plus 2 years transferrable, relevant program/functional experience may substitute).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality, established 4-H Youth Development educational programs and events that address local, regional, and statewide 4-H Youth Development programming priorities with emphasis on club management, 4-H livestock programs, Ag Literacy, county fair, facilitation of county-wide events such as public presentations, Ag in the Classroom life skills, and workforce preparation, as well as community service and leadership.
  • Assist in delivering innovative educational programs to impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods, with support and direction from supervisor.
  • Participate in special events including, but not limited to, 4-H Leader training, County Fair, State Fair, 4-H Fundraising, Public Presentations, Achievement Night, enrollment campaign, and other extension association activities, as assigned.
  • Occasionally apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lessons plans to deliver educational programs.
  • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver programs.
  • Serve as subject matter resource utilizing existing subject matter resources and materials.
  • Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs, with strong consideration for the needs and experiences of all program participants.
  • Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to 4-H newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, and website postings.
  • Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Interact with program participants, association staff, program committees, county/community leaders, and other key stakeholders to collect evaluation data for improving programs.
  • Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.
  • Communicate evaluation results and findings.
  • Assist with identifying activities and resources necessary to implement initiatives and projects.
  • Provide supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.
  • May provide input to planning budget based on program feasibility needs and assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development activities.
  • Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e., program supplies and materials).
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the 4-H Youth Development program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership, and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management.
  • Apply existing subject matter knowledge to coordinate, compile, assemble, and organize program resources and program and teaching materials.
  • Coordinate identified administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals, i.e., confirming events; gathering materials and resources for program delivery; and ensuring delivery to offsite program locations.
  • Coordinate, schedule and support the training and work of 4-H volunteers for implementing education events related to established program priorities.
  • Assist with maintaining communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as contributing educational articles to program newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, and website postings.
  • Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of 4-H Youth Development through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations.
  • Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.
  • Process, track, and maintain event and program registration and monies as per established policy.
  • Prepare and receive event and program related invoices and prepare documentation for payment.
  • Collect and reconcile event and program receipts and monies. Prepare program expense reports.
  • Act as contact for Volunteers and Volunteer Leaders within the County.
  • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others, as necessary.
  • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

  • Submit program related expense receipts in a timely manner per established policy and procedure.
  • Ensure complete confidentiality of all sensitive information regarding all staff, volunteers, participants, etc. at all times.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
  • Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
  • In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes and Skills for Success.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
