About The Position

Responsible To: Residential Treatment Manager Responsible For : Supervising the operation of the shift in accordance to the agency’s vision and mission. Ensures a safe and secure environment for residents, staff and visitors. Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in Sociology, Social Work or related field or 1 year of experience in related field. Basic Minimum Qualifications : Must be able to make fair, sound and reasonable decisions, follow directions of supervisor, use good communication, and be able to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents. Must be able to provide physical interventions in case of imminent danger to a resident or others. FUNCTION: Ensures the safety and security of the facility at all times by monitoring and coordinating group movements and activities, ensuring the daily schedule and programming are followed. Supports residential staff in providing structure, consistency and motivation to children.

• Exhibits sound stewardship by effectively managing resources to achieve the objectives of Young Star Academy.
• Functions as a surrogate parent to children; overseeing, assisting, participating with and maintaining children during a daily routine which includes: wake up, hygienic and grooming tasks, schoolwork and homework, meals, activities, chores, therapy and counseling groups as well as off-site activities such as eating out, going to church or shopping. Teaches children throughout the routine and activities the skills of sportsmanship, sharing, risk-taking, peer relationships, general housekeeping and other life skills. Carries out fair and balanced consequences according to treatment milieu.
• Supervises all children at all times during their shift according to the agency’s policies. Ensures a safe and secure environment for residents, staff and visitors. Provides crisis interventions. Engages a clinical crisis counselor as needed.
• Assists in provision of therapeutic interventions to residents as part of the facility’s Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) and/or Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) services (mentoring, daily living skills training, de-escalation, coping skill development etc.). Assists staff and group leaders with facilitation of formal and informal groups.
• When providing TBS/PSR services, documents the interactions through accurate and timely session notes.
• Supervises and coordinates daily operations of the shift.
• Coordinates and ensures timely provision of staff breaks.
• Ensures timely and accurate completion of: Incident notifications and incident reports, Medication Administration Reports, Peer Supervision forms (quarantine, 1 on 1 or “safe stay”), Phone logs.
• Responsible for notifying nursing staff after every safe hold incident and ensures that a nursing assessment is provided.
• Completes safe hold assessments within 24 hours of each safe hold using the Safe Hold Application Evaluation Form (SHAEF) template.
• Collaborates with teams and communicates with therapists and case managers regarding the youth’s behavior.
• Responsibilities may include providing direct care to children as support and/or back up staff.
• Performs functions of an administrative duty officer (ADO) as needed. Prepares ADO reports and treatment bills according to policies.
• Ensures the protection of children and children’s rights. Completes child abuse referrals as required of all mandated reporters. Documents observed reportable incidents.
• Attends ongoing staff meetings and trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
