About The Position

Hubbell is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on metal 3D printing technician to support engineering and manufacturing efforts. This role involves the preparation, operation, and maintenance of industrial grade metal 3D printers, ensuring quality of printed parts, and maintaining build records. The ideal candidate has familiarity with additive manufacturing processes (ideally binder jet, sintering, and/or laser powder bed fusion), strong troubleshooting skills, and is skilled in workshop finishing processes. While primary responsibilities will be around the operation, maintenance, and powder handling for metal 3D printing systems, there is potential to support the CNC machinist as needed. This is a hands-on job, ensuring high-quality output and innovative solutions for our additive manufacturing processes. We are an entrepreneurial team building a new manufacturing facility and as such everyone is expected to wear multiple hats. We are looking for someone who excels in a dynamic role, effectively balancing multiple responsibilities in addition to 3D printer operation, such as helping in the quality lab, shipping/receiving, and general manufacturing where needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or vocational training with at least 2-3 years of 3D printing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret dimensioned drawings and CAD models.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of GD&T preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Results-oriented, comfortable with uncertainty, and able to work quickly while following established processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CNC machining and quality control equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metal binder jet printers, furnaces, and ancillary equipment for post-processing and quality assurance.
  • Handle metal powders for binder jet 3D printing, including depowdering, conditioning, and transferring materials between printers and ovens.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of printers, furnaces, and related equipment; coordinate with suppliers for upgrades and repairs.
  • Inspect printed parts for critical dimensions and surface quality using precision tools (e.g., calipers, gauge pins/blocks, 3D scanners, optical comparators, profilometers, hardness testers); generate inspection reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of builds, machine performance, maintenance activities, process parameters, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with part assembly and support shipping, receiving, and scheduling to ensure efficient material flow and timely deliveries.
  • Maintain a safe, organized manufacturing space and equipment.
  • Prioritize safety in all operations; follow local and corporate safety protocols and exercise Stop Work Authority when encountering unsafe conditions.
  • Wear required PPE (e.g., PAPR, Tyvek suits, foot protection, gloves) and safely lift items up to 35 lbs.
