About The Position

The 3D Printing and Design Engineer will function as a project manager in the UCSF Center for Advanced 3D+ Applications (CA3D+). They will use advanced engineering concepts to manipulate digital medical images for clinical use, research projects, and teaching activities. They will operate and maintain the hardware and software in CA3D+, which include 3D printers, imaging workstations and VR/AR equipment. The 3D Engineer will perform post-processing, segmentation and design for 3D printing on high-end and desktop 3D printers. They will regularly work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The selected candidate will work closely with the clinical team and determine project specifications and parameters. They will identify anatomy, generate digital models, manufacture models, and apply quality standards to the entire process. Collaborates closely with other Engineers and image segmentation experts at the Quantitative Image Processing Center (QIPC), an institutional partner for UCSF's CA3D+. On collaborative projects with QIPC, the 3D Engineer will serve as the team's lead. As CA3D+ grows they may lead lower-level 3D Engineers. The UCSF Center for Advanced 3D+ Technologies is a clinically driven program that empowers physician decision making and teaching to enhance patient care. 3D printing, AR/VR are all technologies currently being used today for this goal, but this Center is setup to develop and apply new technologies to this end. The candidate for this 3D Engineer position will undergo training on the specialized clinical aspects of CA3D+ upon start of this position. This will include training in application of complex 3D imaging software, 3D printing, 3D anatomy, post-processing including anatomic and physiologic data, and in creating standard protocol views for demonstration of a wide range of clinical anatomy and pathology. This role will work directly with the leadership of the UCSF CA3D+ organization. The primary location of the work will be at the BCH Oakland campus as well as cross coverage of the other engineer at BCH San Francisco Mission Bay as needed. There may also be collaborative opportunities with other UCSF hospitals such as Parnassus and ZSFGH. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
