About The Position

As a part of Global Chemistry, we apply innovative synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry principles and techniques in the preparation of biologically active molecules with druglike properties, in collaboration with the DDUs and platform groups within Takeda Research. As part of the discovery chemistry group within Global Chemistry, the Summer Intern will gain professional hands-on experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. An understanding of synthetic organic chemistry with laboratory experience is expected.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
  • Undergraduate student with completion of a minimum of one year of university studies
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship with Takeda
  • College coursework for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, including accompanying laboratory work, must have been completed
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later
  • The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (May 26th-August 14th or June 15th- August 21st)
  • The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
  • Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a medicinal chemist to execute the design, synthesis, purification and characterization of novel chemical compounds for drug discovery efforts. Role is focused on small molecules in Oncology Drug Discovery Unit.
  • Maintains a well-organized and up-to-date Electronic Lab Notebook
  • Regularly prepares and provides comprehensive presentations of work at internal chemistry project meetings
