Program Overview The HSFCU Summer Internship Program is a full‑time, 8‑week paid experience designed for motivated students interested in exploring careers in financial services. The program provides practical exposure to credit union operations. Interns gain valuable hands‑on experience, work alongside supportive teams, build professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that enhance the employee and member experience. Key Program Details Program Dates: June 15 – August 7, 2026 Pay: $20/hour Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday (8 hours/day) Shift Times: Shifts may vary between 7:30am and 5:00pm Application Window: February 13 – March 31, 2026 What You'll Be Working On As part of the Commercial and Business Banking team, you’ll learn how HSFCU supports local businesses through responsible lending, financial analysis, and relationship‑driven service. Apply HSFCU’s Member-Service Philosophy in Commercial Credit Analysis Learn how HSFCU balances strong member relationships with prudent credit risk management by analyzing member-business financials, identifying risks, and understanding how underwriting decisions support long-term member success. Understand the Commercial Loan Process Through a Member-First Lens Gain exposure to HSFCU’s commercial loan lifecycle—from initial member conversations to post-closing monitoring—while observing how teams collaborate to provide clear communication, timely decisions, and a positive member experience. Incorporate Policy, Compliance, and Member Advocacy in Lending Decisions Learn how HSFCU’s commercial lending policies and NCUA requirements guide decision-making and protect both the credit union and its members Observe how staff advocate for members by structuring loans responsibly, setting appropriate covenants, and supporting sustainable business growth.

Requirements

  • Currently a Junior or Senior enrolled in a four‑year degree program at an accredited college or university, OR enrolled in a two‑year Hawaiʻi program with plans to transfer to a four‑year Hawaiʻi institution
  • Basic proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong organization, time management, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and receive feedback
  • Ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision, and complete assigned tasks
  • Professionalism in a business environment
  • Prior internship or work experience not required
