About The Position

The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Ohio State is designed to help undergraduate students explore opportunities for graduate study and academic careers. Over the course of nine weeks during the summer, Ohio State SROP participants will conduct research with a faculty mentor on a topic of mutual interest and participate in activities crucial to preparation for graduate school, including a professional development series. At the end of the summer program, participants present their research at the Research Symposium to faculty, staff, and summer scholars. Each SROP participant will be hired as an Undergrad Trainee during 9 weeks of the summer term beginning May 26 and ending July 24, 2026. Students are prohibited from securing outside employment during the SROP program. Students are required to participate in all SROP-related activities. Students are required to complete all SROP-related documentation. Students are expected to abide by the academic and behavioral expectations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. This position is not an open search but only for those who have been already identified and awarded the opportunity from the Graduate School at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Completed at least one-third of the credit hours required for their undergraduate major, exclusive of the General Education Curriculum (GEC) requirement, by June of the application year
  • At least one semester/one quarter of enrollment remaining after the program ends
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the time of application
  • An interest in pursuing graduate school at The Ohio State University
  • Must have been already identified and awarded the opportunity from the Graduate School at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the Big Ten Academic Alliance

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research with a faculty mentor on a topic of mutual interest
  • Participate in activities crucial to preparation for graduate school, including a professional development series
  • Present research at the Research Symposium to faculty, staff, and summer scholars
  • Conduct 40 hours of research on a weekly basis
  • Participate in all SROP-related activities
  • Complete all SROP-related documentation
  • Abide by the academic and behavioral expectations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct
