THE 2026 SUMMER NURSE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM provides nursing students with an opportunity to apply nursing theory to clinical practice, develop time management skills, and develop their problem solving techniques. You'll gain confidence at the bedside through observing and performing technical skills during a 10-week period. The 2026 Summer Nurse Internship will begin May 18, 2026 and run through July 31, 2026. AVAILABLE LOCATIONS/ UNITS: Penn Highlands DuBois Obstetrics/Maternity, Neonatal Intensive Care, Emergency/Trauma, Operating Room, GI Lab, Peri-Anesthesia, Cardiovascular Intensive Care, Inpatient Wound, NeuroTrauma Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical, Acute Surgical, Inpatient Behavioral Health (Adult & Adolescent), Inpatient Rehabilitation, Hahne Cancer Center Penn Highlands Brookville You'll rotate through Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Operating Room, & Geropsych Penn Highlands Clearfield You'll rotate through Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Operating Room, Wound Clinic, & Geropsych Penn Highlands Elk You'll rotate through Acute Care, Emergency, & Operating Room Penn Highlands Tyrone Medical/Surgical, Operating Room, Emergency Penn Highlands Huntingdon Acute Care, Emergency, Operating Room, & Behavioral Health
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, pursuing your Associate's or Bachelor's degree, with completion of sophomore or junior year by May 2026
- Must be able to attend Internship Orientation (you will be assigned to one day upon Facility/Unit Assignment: May 14th or May 15, 2026)
- Must be able to complete internship with minimal absenteeism
- Must have flexibility to work rotating shifts (you will follow your preceptor's schedule - including evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays)
- Must have a customer service attitude
- Must be a team player
Nice To Haves
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (preferred)
