About The Position

This position involves conducting research and development of innovative biomaterials for Contraline’s next-generation products and broader hydrogel platform. This is an in-person, part-time, 10-week internship located in Charlottesville, VA.

Requirements

  • Actively working towards a Bachelor's, Master's, or doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Engineering.
  • Must be eligible for the 2026 VCU Biotech/Medtech Internship Program.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Clear, written and verbal communication skills

  • Hard working; strong dedication to the internship and project
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Biomaterials or polymer characterization experience, but a strong demonstrated interest in these areas is also valuable.
  • CAD and 3D printing

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, prototyping, and refinement of medical device components
  • Execute benchtop test methods to evaluate device and biomaterial performance
  • Assist in the design and execution of preclinical studies towards the development of device components
  • Support development of technical documentation, including protocols, reports, and design rationale summaries
  • Assist the R&D team with broader company objectives and projects as they come up.
  • Prepare data and reports for laboratory meetings and present to the team at the end of the internship.
  • Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records.
