2026 Summer Internship, Energy and Climate Planning
About The Position
ICF's Energy and Climate Planning Interns contribute to the development of innovative, analytical, high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff.⯠Our Interns are given opportunities to work on assignments that foster growth and allow them to develop solutions within the policy, power, gas, renewable energy, distributed resources and climate planning sectors. Through client engagements, colleague and peer interactions, and specialized training, ICF Interns develop subject matter expertise and project management skills. This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2026. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location or hybrid from our Reston, VA or Crystal City, VA office for those local to the area. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program studying Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operationsâ¯Research, Engineering, or related field
Nice To Haves
- Currently enrolled in a Master's degree program studying Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operationsâ¯Research, Engineering, or related field
- Strong interest in one or more of these areas: energy economics, energy finance, climate, greenhouse gas accounting, operations research, and energy policy analysis
- The ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
- Basic knowledge of R,â¯Pythonâ¯and/or other coding languages
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Strong analytical skillsâ¯and capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
- Working knowledge of US energy markets, policies, and technology.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced quantitative andâ¯economic analysis of energy and environmental markets
- Contribute to the development andâ¯enhancement of ICF proprietary models and databases
- Evaluate the impact of future regulation and support the development of client strategies to manageâ¯change
- Write analysis for major corporate and government clients' deliverables
- Support the development of research synthesis reports, industry benchmarking, quantitative analysis and policy summaries
- Contribute to business development and marketing efforts and thought leadership development through market research, data analysis and creation of marketing content.
