About The Position

Our Research Operations team is the backbone of the research organization. We bridge the gap between science and strategy, ensuring our teams have the insights they need to operate. We are currently exploring how Generative AI can modernize our resource management systems. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. We are seeking a creative problem-solver to lead a pilot project at the intersection of Resource Management and AI. Your challenge is to take our existing headcount data and reimagine how it is visualized and accessed. We are moving away from static spreadsheets and toward dynamic insights. You will have the freedom to explore internal AI tools (like Gemini) to design an Interactive Organizational Chart or dashboard. This is an open-ended technical challenge that requires a curious mindset. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June 2026. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree.
  • Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Critical Thinking: You don't just execute tasks; you ask "Why are we doing it this way?" and propose better methods.
  • Technical Curiosity: Experience with or strong interest in Generative AI (Gemini, ChatGPT) and data visualization tools.
  • Data Fluency: You have experience working with complex datasets and understand how databases relate to one another.
  • Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • System Analysis: Audit our current headcount management application and data structures. Identify why the current data is hard to visualize and propose a logic structure to fix it.
  • AI & Tool Exploration: Experiment with Genentech’s secure AI ecosystem (Gemini, internal agents) to test if they can "read" our data and generate accurate visual outputs.
  • Prototype Development: Build a working proof-of-concept. This could be an automated dashboard, a searchable visual map, or a query-based tool.
  • User Research: You will not build in a vacuum. You will interview stakeholders to understand how they use org charts and validate your design with them.
  • Operational Execution: Assist with the day-to-day data maintenance to confirm the accuracy of the information you are trying to visualize.
