About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented intern to join our biotransformation group in the Department of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) at Genentech in South San Francisco, CA. The DMPK group is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of small molecule drug candidates. We accomplish this through the application of state-of-the-art technologies and sciences of bioanalysis, drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists in a highly-collaborative environment to support the biotransformation function. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on site.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Master's Degree.
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Drug metabolism, data science or a related discipline.
  • Applicants should possess a strong foundational understanding of AI/ML frameworks and the ability to effectively collaborate with our Computational Center of Excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-driven, can work both independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Python, RDkit, Cheminformatics and/or classical Machine learning is preferred.
  • Experience in metabolite identification and biotransformation pathways of small molecules is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Update and enhance internal biotransformation AI/ML models.
  • Organize and curate a comprehensive metabolites database from multiple sources.
  • Partner with scientists to optimize the biotransformation workflow.
  • Summarize and present results to diverse scientific audiences.
