About The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Proteomic and Genomic Technologies Department Summary We seek a highly motivated research intern to join the Proteomic and Genomic Technologies department within Genentech Research and early development (gRED). Our department develops technologies that help drive early-stage therapeutic innovation. Our team focuses on applying novel technologies within the genomics and proteomics space to enhance drug discovery. The successful candidate will leverage molecular biology techniques to integrate state-of-the-art single-cell sequencing technologies within the Genomics group. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. The Opportunity Drive cutting-edge research in the single-cell technology field. Evaluate and adapt various single-cell methods for compatibility with long-read sequencing methods (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Pacific Biosciences). Gain familiarity with and develop bioinformatic tools/pipelines for single-cell long-read RNA sequencing data analysis. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving to achieve project goals. Contribute to Genentech’s culture of scientific curiosity and discovery via cross-department presentations.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Master's Degree.
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a PhD.
  • Required Majors: Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Familiarity with sequencing technology.
