The Position 2026 Summer Intern - Molecular Lab Research & Early Development We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. Department Summary The Molecular Lab Research & Early Development team is seeking motivated graduate students for an immersive internship program. When you join our team, you will be doing meaningful work designing novel molecular assays that enable diagnosis and management of human infectious diseases and emerging pandemic threats. As you collaborate with some of the best in the industry, you will make a huge difference in infectious disease diagnostics! This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on-site The Opportunity Conduct wet-lab research toward the design and early development of prototype qPCR diagnostic assays. Perform qPCR and qRT-PCR experiments using sophisticated diagnostic instruments (e.g. cobas® 6800 and 8800). You may also perform next-generation sequencing (NGS) to characterize novel qPCR assay targets. Analyze experimental qPCR and/or NGS results using sophisticated software, and record your findings in electronic lab notebooks. Collaborate with your teammates and supervisor to evaluate new approaches and solve challenging problems. Present your findings at group/departmental meetings and a poster symposium. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genomics, or equivalent field
  • Proven ability to conduct significant independent wet-lab research in Molecular Biology or equivalent field with emphasis in Microbiology, virology, and/or genomics
  • Hands-on experience with qPCR, RT-PCR, and standard molecular biology techniques

  • Experience with metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and analysis
