Stephens & Associates, staff counsel for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in Fairfax, Virginia, is hiring a rising 3L Summer Law Intern (Class of 2027) who will have exposure to litigation and trial practice. The internship strives to provide a balanced and realistic representation of the function of Claims Litigation Counsel, as well as real-world exposure to a multitude of legal services being provided. The selected individual will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with attorneys on assigned projects, observe every phase of litigation, and will have a designated mentor throughout the internship. The internship has a full-time schedule in the summer beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026, with the potential to transition to a part-time schedule during the 2026/2027 school year. The selected intern will be paid $33/ hour and operate in a hybrid environment (combination of in-office and remote). The Summer Intern selected will also receive a $2000 Intern Stipend. The ideal candidate should possess excellent organizational skills, an energetic/positive attitude, legal research knowledge, and the ability to work well under deadlines in a fast-paced working environment. Located in Fairfax, Virginia, we enjoy an active, busy civil trial practice. We provide a congenial, team-oriented, professional work environment with skilled support staff.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as a 2L student in an ABA accredited law school and must remain enrolled as a student for the duration of the internship.
  • 2L students in the top half of their class
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Virginia Evidence and Civil Procedure a plus
  • Completion of Virginia Insurance Law course a plus
